Just spent a stupid amount of money on a keyboard and associated musical equipent (studio monitors, etc.) for my younger son.
We have been in a stalemate over last year’s birthday present. He wanted a gaming computer, but only if he could have it in his room. We said no computer in your room because parenting.
I just broke the stalemate with an irresponsible expenditure.

Be careful that can be a gateway item next thing you know he’ll be scouring Craigslist for vintage Vox and Hammonds.

It’s about leverage and the law doesn’t give us much.
So Mijo places conditions on his birthday present?
Quality musical instruments are not money poorly spent, generally. That keyboard may be in the family for a VERY long time.
And yes, because parenting. But smart phone...

I dunno, I had a TRS-80 in my room and it worked out fine!
(While I’m not kidding about the trash-80, I second gmctavish, good move holding ground on that point.)

I had a computer, tv, record player, hi-fi, and gaming consoles in my room. I don’t see the problem .
